Watching A Stretch Of Road

Hi. Welcome to the blog of Jennifer Metzger. Between now and summer of 2013 I'll be living and working in Nicaragua with Manna Project International (www.mannaproject.org) teaching English, coaching soccer, assisting with a feeding program, teaching a sexual and reproductive health class, and more!

Manna Project International Nicaragua: Despedida and a little thing called retreat

MPI Nica blog gave me a little shout out

My roommates/coworkers surprised me with this video a few days ago. I had no idea that they were doing this! It is long so I don’t blame you for not watching it all, but I love it because it includes clips from my programs, notes from community members (in Spanish) and from each of my roomies. I will love this forever.

Awesome promo for our women’s jewelry cooperative in La Chureca!

Some pictures from a talent show we had at Farito last night. Everyone had such a good time! It was amazing! Most of the “talents” were dancing. It’s actually kind of strange, little girls get up front and shake their booties like I’ve never seen and you don’t know whether you should be laughing or not. We had a brother and sister dance bachata though, which is beautiful to watch. We also had our Math & Lit students act out the play “The Gingerbread Man”. It was a wonderful night.

Some pictures from when my friend Jenny visited! So nice to have visitors! We went to the islands of Ometepe, which were formed by two volcanoes. We spent one day kayaking for about 4 hours, and a lot of time relaxing. We also stopped by Granada for a night, which brings my Granada count up to 6 or 7 I think.

IPA

This is how one of my professors communicates to the class:

“ju du nɑt hæv ə kwɪz ðɪs wik

pliz bi ʃɔr tə kəmˈplit ɔl əv ði ˈɛksərˌsaizəz ɪn ðə ˈlɛsən tə præktɪs ˈmoʊdəlz ənd tɛns ˈvaʊəlz”

I speak IPA.

Check out this video I made for MPI! Each month we’re going to be highlighting a PD and having them answer questions that people sent in. It’s not edited perfectly because of my software but next month I’ll be using a different computer! yay!
